Callaway Rogue and Rogue Sub Zero driver: more distance and forgiveness thanks to 'Jailbreak Effect'
Callaway has launched its Rogue and Rogue sub-zero drivers for 2018, designed to offer more distance and forgiveness than the GBB Epic.

The new drivers feature improved Jailbreak Technology - which debuted in the number one driver of 2018 the Callaway GBB Epic - and increases the forgiveness.
The bars used in Jailbreak Technology are an hourglass-shape in the Rogue, while being made of titanium, meaning they are 25% lighter, without impacting crown and sole deflection at impact. This is key in Jailbreak technology, as by keeping the crown and sole stiff, it allows the face to flex more, for extra ball speeds.
There is also X-Face VFT, which varies thickness in the face for improved ball speeds on off-centre hits - basically more forgiveness.
This allows technology also allows Callaway to implement a thinner face in parts, which they say increases ball speeds for extra distance.
Together, Callaway are calling the technologies the “Jailbreak Effect”.
The 460cc head has a larger footprint at address, and the light and strong triaxial carbon crown allows for more mass to be moved to the perimeters, for more help on off-centre strikes.
Boeing and Callaway continue their relationship in 2018, with an improved Speed Step Technology allowing for an aerodynamic design, allowing for faster club head speeds. The brand say they have again been able to decrease drag, thanks to improving how long air sticks to the driver as it moves through the air.
MOI has significantly increased. The Callaway XR had an MOI of 7,400, the Epic had 8,000, while the Rogue is at 8,600, which Callaway says offers a 16% increase in dispersion compared to the Epic.

The Callaway Rogue Sub Zero benefits from much of the same technology as the Rogue in a low-spinning driver. In 2018, Callaway wanted to bring a low spinning driver to market than also boasted high levels of forgiveness, allowing all players to game the driver should they require a low spinning product.
It also has the improved Jailbreak Technology and X-Face VFT technology for improved ball speeds and distance.
However, the Rogue SZ has a head shape allowing engineers to put CG low and deep with a more neutral bias.
This alongside a neutral axis promotes a higher launch and lower spin - a recipe for long distance.
In 2018, two interchangeable weights (2g and 14g) in the front and back of the sole allow spin rate to be adjusted up to 200rpm.
The SZ Rogue is designed to spin around 3-400rpm lower than the Rogue driver.

In addition to the Rogue and Rogue Sub Zero, there is a draw biased head, which has weight in the heel. Compared to the Rogue in the draw setting, the draw biased Rogue will hit 7-8 yards more to the left.
