WATCH: Gary Woodland hits an UNBELIEVABLE chip on the 17th
Gary Woodland hit what is being described as the shot of the tournament on the 17th hole at Pebble Beach, to set up a tap in par before going on to win the 2019 US Open and his first major.
Gary Woodland played as though he'd already won ten majors on Sunday, keeping hold of his lead to win the 2019 US Open and his first major title.
Woodland was paired with Justin Rose in the final round, but it was Brooks Koepka, the defending US Open champion, who hit the ground running on Sunday to put the pressure on Woodland.
At one point there was just a shot between the two, but on the 17th hole, Woodland was two shots clear with Koepka playing the par 5 18th.
Woodland showed a hint of nerves with his tee shot on the par 3, sending his ball to the right hand side of the large and tricky green.
The 35 year old had no choice but to chip it from the fringe of the green for any chance of leaving a decent par putt. Commentators feared the worse for Woodland, saying that anything around 8ft would be an incredible shot.
With the pressure mounted, Woodland stepped up and produced something very special indeed.
"That is the shot of a champion!"
Woodland opts for a wedge from 90 feet and knocks to less than three feet!
