MacGregor driver takes centre stage
Highlights from the demo curtain raiser to the PGA trade show in Florida which starts today.
MacGregor Golf was among those taking centre stage at ‘the ultimate demo day’ on the eve of the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida which opens today. The event is a showcase of what club golfers can expect to see in pro shops, high street stores and their online retailers in the next 12 months and the eye-catching MacGregor MacTec NVG2 driver certainly caused a stir. Endorsed by MacGregor’s Greg Norman, the driver claims to contain much breakthrough technology to improve higher launch, less spin and more distance, including the world’s first ‘dual beta titanium’ clubhead and Quadra tungsten weighting. The company, which has a UK base in High Wycombe and has a 108-year history, also unveiled fairway and hybrid utility woods, irons and Bobby Grace putters. Almost 60 companies took part in the demonstration, attracting pros, agents and journalists to check out the latest products.
Among others at the demo day were Hippo, endorsed by Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam and revealing its new XXL 450cc beta titanium driver, Maraging steel fairway woods and hybrid clubs incorporating adjustable weighting technology. The XXL Combo iron set has the 3- and 4-irons replaced with easier to hit hybrids providing both distance and forgiveness. A Magia hybrid iron set for women will also be introduced later in the year and will also be available in boxed sets consisting of driver, four fairway woods, six irons, a putter and bag.
Though not represented at the demo-day, TaylorMade announced the planned introduction of r7 Steel and r7 Ti fairway metals featuring the company’s moveable weight technology. The r7 Steel is more traditionally shaped, while the r7 Ti, features greater clubhead volume for greater forgiveness. The r7 Steel will be available in Tour Strong 3-wood (13 degrees), 3-wood (15), 4-wood (16.5), 5-wood (18) and 7-wood (21) from April, while the r7 Ti will be available in a choice of five flexes. Over 40 UK companies are exhibiting at PGA Merchandis Show this year. *Tell us what equipment you carry in your bag - including the irons, driver, balls, putter and glove – by submitting a And if you’ve got equipment to buy or sell second hand you can do that too, in our popular |
