BMW PGA Championship winner Alex Noren reacts to injury replacement Ryder Cup question

Sweden's Alex Noren claimed the 2025 BMW PGA Championship after prevailing in a tense play-off over Frenchman Adrien Saddier at Wentworth.

Alex Noren says he'll be taking his clubs to America after winning the BMW PGA Championship - but only because he needs to take them home to Florida.

The Swede won the DP World Tour's flagship event for the second time in his career on Sunday at a soggy Wentworth.

Sweden's Noren, 43, finished on 19-under par alongside Frenchman Adrien Saddier.

The 43-year-old came up trumps on the first play-off hole, chipping close for a gimme birdie whilst Saddier could only manage a par.

Noren last won the BMW PGA Championship in 2017.

He told Sky Sports Golf he'll be taking his clubs to the United States next week ahead of Europe's reconnaissance trip, but only because he needs to take them home.

Other players are more deserving of the opportunity to play, he said, and it's unlikely he'll be called up to play in the event one of the dozen gets injured.

"I'll take my clubs this time but take it home to Florida," Noren said.

"I think the other guys have played better than me throughout the year.

"I've had a great result now the last month but it came a little bit too late.

"I think the guys on the team is going to be fantastic.

"I'm really looking forward to that match more than, I don't know, in a long time."

Noren has been named as one of Luke Donald's five vice-captains for the 2025 matches.

Elsewhere, Tyrrell Hatton, Patrick Reed, Viktor Hovland and Matthew Fitzpatrick finished inside the top-10.

Jon Rahm finished 13th on 13-under, while Masters champion Rory McIlroy shot a final-round 65 to finish among a group of five that finished on 12-under.

Saddier does well

Noren -18, Saddier -18, Hatton -15 (14)

Adrien Saddier plays a big cut to the front edge of the green. A good shot, and a good chance to save his par.

Tyrrell Hatton's approach is right at the flag, but a little short.

Noren is in the first cut of rough by the side of the green.

15:17
Ferguson keeps himself in it

Ferguson -16, Reed -15 (16)

Ewen Ferguson misses the green with his second at the par-4 16th. That could prove costly.

He chips onto the green and his golf ball rolls out to about 12 feet.

The Scot gets a Reed from Patrick as the American misses his birdie chance.

Ferguson needs a big finish...

Where is Saddier's golf ball?

Noren -18, Saddier -18, Hatton -15 (15*)

Fore shouts at the 15th for Adrien Saddier.

It's not immediately clear where his ball landed - but it transpires it landed in the hood of a spectator's jacket.

He'll be able to take a drop.

How fortunate is that?!

Rai can't reach par-5 17th in two

A. Rai -16 (17*)

Fore right! Aaron Rai bails out right at the par-5 17th with his tee shot.

He can't reach in two from there. Doesn't look like the best lie either.

Noren holds his nerve, Saddier ties lead

Noren -18, Saddier -18, Hatton -15 (14)

Noren does extremely well to get his ball onto the green after finding a plugged lie in the bunker.

The Swede holds his nerve from 12-foot to remain at 18-under.

Can Saddier join him at the top? Yes. The Frenchman enjoyed that.

Hatton's effort is low and he ticks off a par. Feels his race is run now...

Ferguson two back

Fitzpatrick -13, Ferguson -16, Reed -15 (15)

Scotland's Ewen Ferguson isn't going away.

A 20-foot birdie putt just catches enough of the hole at the 15th.

Fitzpatrick lips out for his birdie.

14:56
Hovland moves to 14-under

Fichardt -15, Hall -12, Hovland -14 (14)

We mentioned Viktor Hovland was close at the 14th.

He converts the birdie putt and is now four back with plenty of scoring chances remaining.

Grandstand finish?

Noren in trouble

Noren -18, Saddier -17, Hatton -15 (14*)

Onto the par-3 14th for the final group.

Saddier hits a beauty. Gasps from the gallery as Noren finds the trap.

What can Hatton muster? He hates it. It's pin-high, but too far away for his liking.

The heavens have opened now...

Noren seizes the lead

Noren -18, Saddier -17, Hatton -15 (13)

The unflappable Alex Noren re-stakes the lead at the 13th, courtesy of a 16-foot birdie putt.

Saddier is marginally closer and thinks he's got his three, too, but it just grazes the edge.

A perplexed and angry Hatton makes par after another presentable birdie chance goes begging.

The Englishman is running out of holes.

14:48
Here comes Hovland

Fichardt -15, Hall -11, Hovland -13 (14*)

Viktor Hovland has smile on his face.

That's because at long last a birdie putt drops at the 13th.

He moves to 13-under and is going flag-hunting at the 14th. That looks like seven or so feet.

Has he run out of holes though?

14:35
"Got to have faith"

Jon Rahm has been speaking to reporters after posting a total score of 13-under.

The Spaniard, unsurprisingly, was quizzed about Europe's chances at the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Rahm said miracles have happened twice.

"Got to have faith," he said.

"I think we're playing good enough and we are n a good and strong enough team to face what we are going to face at Bethpage and hopefully end up with the Cup."

Fichardt makes a move

Fichardt -15, Hall -12, Hovland -12 (12)

It's all gone quiet for Harry Hall and Viktor Hovland.

Darren Fichardt is up to a tie for third, though, thanks to a birdie at the 12th.

Min Woo Lee implodes

Saddier joins the lead

Noren -16, Saddier -16, Hatton -14 (10)

Bad start to the back nine for Tyrrell

Noren -16, Saddier -15, Hatton -14 (9)

Saddier is first up at the par-3 10th.

The Frenchman hits a beauty and will have about 12 feet for birdie.

Alex Noren airmails the green and Tyrrell Hatton is in the rough just short of the green.

Hatton swears loudly as he marches up towards his ball.

13:45
Lee chips in

M. Woo Lee -14 (15)

Min Woo Lee dropped a shot at the 14th and it looked as though he was going to

drop another one over at the par-4 15th as he came up well short of the green with his approach.

No problem though, as he chips in for an unlikely - and timely - birdie three.

13:42
Hatton par

Noren -16, Saddier -15, Hatton -14 (9)

Adrien Saddier makes his ninth par in a row.

In truth, he's done really well to remain at 15-under as he has been forced to scramble for par plenty.

Noren finds the heart of the green and walks off with a four. Hatton also holds his nerve from four feet to save his par.

Nine to go...

Rahm finishes with a par

Rahm -13 (66)

Jon Rahm posts the clubhouse target of 13-under.

The Spaniard can't convert a birdie putt from nine feet at the last.

We're fairly certain this wasn't the finish Rahm envisioned as he made the turn...
