Former Masters champion Patrick Reed will take a three-shot lead into the final round of LIV Golf Dallas.

The 34-year-old, who was among the first wave of high-profile recruits to join the PIF-backed breakaway in 2022, has never won an individual title on LIV.

Reed went round Maridoe Golf Club in 4-under 68 on Saturday to extend his lead at the summit.

He shared the lead with Harold Varner III on day one but his 4 Aces teammate slipped down the leaderboard on Saturday after firing a 72.

Former European Ryder Cup star Paul Casey is also yet to win an individual title with LIV and is breathing down Reed's neck after he added a 67 to his opening 71.

England's Tyrrell Hatton and Spain's Jon Rahm are also inside the top 10 but will likely need Reed to faulter if they are to challenge.

Abraham Ancer could snatch Open Championship spot from Sergio Garcia

One of the big storylines heading into LIV Golf Dallas was who would punch their ticket to next month's final major.

The R&A, which oversees and runs The Open, announced in February the leading LIV player that is not otherwise exempt and in the top five in the standings, which get a spot in the field next month at Royal Portrush.

Former Masters champ Sergio Garcia, who has not entered Final Qualifying next week, is currently in possession of the ticket.

But he could be leapfrogged by Abraham Ancer should the Mexican win.

"I've obviously had in my mind since they announced the spot for us," Ancer told reporters.

"Yeah, I'm going to be trying to play as good as possible. Looks like -- I haven't looked the last couple holes, but P-Reed is playing incredible golf.

"He's a great golfer, it'll be tough to catch him, but I'm going to give it my all."
