Kai Trump at The Annika: LIVE Round 2 updates as Donald Trump's granddaughter battles back

Kai Trump improves by eight shots in the second round of her LPGA debut at The Annika.

Kai Trump, the eldest granddaughter of United States President Donald Trump, performed much better in the second round at The Annika on Friday.

The 18-year-old American, playing on a sponsor's exemption, was making her LPGA debut at Pelican Golf Club in Florida this week.

She played alongside Japan's Hinako Shibuno and Germany's Olivia Cowan.

Kai was invited into the penultimate event of the LPGA season by tournament host Annika Sorenstam, who is a big fan of Kai and her grandfather Trump, the President of the United States.

With more than 6 million followers on social media, Kai took the biggest galleries with her around the course on Thursday and Friday.

Amateur Kai unfortunately finished bottom of the board on 18-over par in solo 108th place.

Kai began with a 13-over 83 on Thursday.

But she battled back valiantly on Friday with a 5-over 75, a round that contained four birdies.

Despite the tough start, Kai admitted the experience was priceless and she was more than happy with her efforts.

"Yeah, I was definitely more nervous than I expected, but I thought I hit a lot of great shots out there," Kai told reporters.

"Obviously being my first LPGA event, now I kind of know how it goes. I felt like a little out of order in the beginning but I kind of got it going afterwards.

"I learned a lot. It was amazing. I had a great time out there.

"Yeah, didn't play the way I wanted obviously, but for my first event ever I think I played pretty good."

Kai has only played in three amateur events this season and she is ranked 461st in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) rankings.

Prior to competing in The Annika, Kai asked Tiger Woods, who is in a relationship with her mother Vanessa, for advice.

She also has a familiar face as her caddie this week.

Kai plays off a handicap of +0.5, which is incredible for a club golfer but a far cry from the pros or even elite amateurs.

She has now signed up to join Miami women's golf team for 2026.

Kai shoots 75

Trump +18 (75)

Kai misses her 10 footer for par on the low side.

But it's an improved round of 75, one that featured four birdies.

Brilliant approach at 18

Trump +18 (17)

Kai made bogey on 17 to fall to 5-over par for the round.

But she's just split the fairway and stuffed her approach shot to 10 feet on the tough par-4 18th.

Let's hope she can bury the putt to cap off what has been an impressive second round.

Korda shoots 63

Korda -6

From 54th to 4th - Nelly Korda makes her move.

The World No.2 fires a stunning 63 to vault from 1-over par to 6-under par.

She's just three shots off the pace as it stands.

Grace Kim and Jennifer Kupcho lead at 9-under par.

Korda has won The Annika three of the last four years.

She's incredibly looking to win her first event of the LPGA season.

17:35
Par at 16

Trump +17 (16)

Trump misses her 20 footer for birdie on the 16th.

She then converts her five footer for par.

4-over for the round.

Easily breaking 80 today.

17:23
Double on 15

Trump +17 (15)

Tough break for Kai at 15 as a double goes down on the card.

Back to 17-over but only 4-over on the day.

8/11 fairways and 8/15 greens.

16:44
Steady round continues

Trump +15 (13)

It's a safe par at 13.

Kai has hit 7/10 fairways and 8/13 greens - impressive to say the least for a scratch golfer.

16:29
Birdie at 12

Trump +15 (12)

This is brilliant from Kai.

She's just tucked away her fourth birdie of the round, this time on the par-3 12th.

A lot of critics will be deleting a few tweets after today's performance.

16:17
Bogey-Birdie

Trump +16 (11)

Kai bogeyed the 10th but immediately got that shot back at the 11th.

That's three birdies on the card today.

There's been a lot of criticism on social media about Kai receiving an invite to play in The Annika, especially after opening with an 83, but she's performed admirably today.

She's performing much better than a host of LPGA players today.

15:42
Charley Hull in contention

Hull -4 (11)

Charley Hull is five shots off the pace as it stands on 4-under par.

The popular Englishwoman is 1-under for the round thru 11 holes.

15:40
Kai out in 38

Trump +16 (9)

Kai makes par on the par-3 9th to go out in 3-over 38.

She missed the green but still managed to save par from 12 feet.

Kai is 16-over for the tournament.

Much better today.

Both Vanessa and Tiger will be very proud of Kai's efforts to fight after yesterday's tough 83 start.

15:37
Bogey on 8

Trump +16 (8)

Kai misses the fairway and the green with her approach shot and it leads to a bogey-five on the 8th.

Still, 3-over par thru eight is a huge improvement on the first round - she was 6-over thru eight holes yesterday.

15:35
Grace Kim leads the way

At the top of the board, Australia's Grace Kim leads the way on 9-under par thru 10 holes.

Kim is 4-under for the round and two shots clear of Jennifer Kupcho, who has just played nine holes.

Elsewhere, Nelly Korda, who has won The Annika three of the last four seasons, is 4-under thru 10 holes and up to 3-under for the tournament inside the top 10.

15:22
Birdie at 7

Trump +15 (7)

A brilliant birdie for Kai on the par-5 7th - and it's greeted by some of the loudest cheers of the week so far.

It marks her second birdie of the opening nine and she's now just 2-over for the round.

This is so much better today with 4/6 fairways hit and 4/7 greens in regulation.

Kai has a huge smile on her face and rightly so - she should be very proud with her second-round performance at Pelican GC.

15:16
Improvement in R2

Kai is off to a much better start in the second round of The Annika.

She made her first birdie of the week at the par-3 3rd to move to 1-under for the round.

But she has since slipped back with a bogey on the 4th and a disastrous triple-bogey seven on the 5th.

Still, 3-over thru six holes is better going than yesterday, where she shot a 13-over 83.

Kai is now heading down the par-5 7th.
