The field for the 153rd Open Championship has been finalised.

A total of 156 players will tee it up at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland this week with hopes of lifting the famed Claret Jug.

Reigning PGA Tour player of the year Scottie Scheffler is the overwhelming favourite to clinch his first Open title.

Scheffler will face stiff competition from the likes of Masters champion Rory McIlroy as well as LIV Golf recruits Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm

Reigning champion golfer of the year, Xander Schauffele, will attempt to defend his title.

Schauffele won his second major title 12 months ago at Royal Troon.

Elsewhere, Collin Morikawa, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland, Robert MacIntyre and former winner Shane Lowry will believe they can contend.

Lowry, of course, was the winner here the last time The Open was played at Royal Portrush in 2019.

Final qualifying

A total of 20 players also punched their tickets to The Open following four separate 36-hole qualifiers that were held at Dundonald Links, Royal Cinque Ports, West Lancashire and Burnham & Berrow.

Former World No.1 Lee Westwood was among the notables who made it through the gruelling day but several big names, such as Ian Poulter and Graeme McDowell, missed out

America's Chris Gotterup punched his ticket to this week's Open with victory last week in Scotland

Gotterup, Denmark's Nicolai Hojgaard and Germany's Matti Schmid were the final names added to the field.

Former Open winner Ernie Els was expected to play, but withdrew without specifying a reason

Els has been replaced by Si Woo Kim, with Davis Riley now the first alternate should another player drop out.

GolfMagic has listed the entire field for the 2025 Open Championship below, along with how they qualified.

The qualifying criteria is also listed at the bottom of this page.

Will Tiger Woods play?

Three-time Open champion Woods is qualified to play the 153rd Open.

But Woods ruptured his left Achilles in March, forcing him out of action for the 2025 season.
