Scottie Scheffler moves one leg away from career grand slam with victory at The Open

McIlroy chips up to four feet from the right rough on the short par-4 5th.

He taps in for birdie to move to 9-under par.

Fitzpatrick follows him in for birdie from long range. 

Both players seven back in T2.

Fowler -8 (F)

Fowler closes with three straight birdies for a brilliant 65. 

The popular American finishes the week on 8-under par, which is tied fifth right now. 

Perhaps a late charge for a pick in the US Ryder Cup team? 

McIlroy -8 (4)

McIlroy hits a shocking second shot from the fairway into the rough right of the green.

He fails to get up and down and it's a first bogey of his round.

Out of it now. Seven back. 

Scheffler -15, Li -10 (3)

Safe pars all round for the final pair on the par-3 3rd. 

Hatton -7 (5)

Another bogey for Hatton.

He misses a four footer for par.

Not happy. 

Gotterup -9 (4)

Gotterup drains a huge left to right birdie putt from around 50 feet on the par-4 4th. 

Scheffler -15, Li -10 (2)

Scheffler chips long past the pin on the par-5 2nd and it leads to a par. 

Li played a clumsy greenside bunker shot over the other side of the green and then he failed to convert a six-footer for par. 

Scheffler now extends his lead to five shots. 

McIlroy -9, Fitzpatrick -8 (3)

McIlroy two putts for par from 35 feet at the par-3 3rd.

The home favourite remains at 9-under in a tie for third. 

Fitzpatrick's poor start continues with a bogey and he's back to 8-under. 

DeChambeau -8 (15)

DeChambeau is 6 under for the round after a birdie on 15.

He's up to T6 now. 

Incredible move back up the board having shot a 78 on Thursday. 

Schauffele -8 (4)

Schauffele cans a lengthy birdie putt on the 4th to move to 8-under. 

McIlroy -9, Fitzpatrick -9 (2)

McIlroy two putts for birdie from the right edge of the green at the easy par-5 2nd.

No such luck for Fitzpatrick though, who missed the green with his third shot. 

Both six back. 

English -9 (2)

English curls in a birdie from 10 feet on the par-5 2nd. 

The laidback American moves into a tie for third on 9-under.

Six back. 

Li -11 (1)

Li rolls in a four-footer to match Scheffler's birdie on the 1st.

He remains four back. 

Fitzpatrick -9, McIlroy -8 (1)

It's pars all round for the penultimate pairing at the par-4 1st.

McIlroy two putted from 35 feet while Fitzpatrick got up and down from the back of the green.

Not the start either wanted. 

Matsuyama -8 (12)

Four birdies in a row for Matsuyama, who moves to an impressive 6-under for the round and to 8-under for the championship. 

Hatton -8 (2)

Sloppy bogey from Hatton on the par-5 2nd. 

He found the bunker off the tee and was forced to splash out less than 100 yards.

From there he missed the green with his third shot and then missed a short four footer for par.

Back to 8 under and likely out of it now. 

McIlroy -8 (1*)

McIlroy is greeted onto the 1st tee to huge cheers and applause. 

He finds the fairway with iron to cries of 'Rory, Rory, Rory...' 

R.Hojgaard -8 (2)

Hojgaard rolls in two early birdies on 1 and 2 to move into contention at 8-under par. 

His twin Nicolai is not having such luck with a bogey at 1 to fall back to 5-under par. 

Hatton -9 (1)

Hatton makes an early move.

He finds the fairway with an iron then stiffs his approach shot to four feet under the hole.

The Englishman cans the putt for birdie and moves into a tie for third on 9-under.

Five back. 

The crowd at the driving range has got noticeably bigger over the last few minutes. 

Wonder why. 

Rory McIlroy is going through his final preparations now. 

MacIntyre -6, R. Hojgaard -6 (1*)

Robert MacIntyre pledged to attack from the very start today in order to try and catch Scottie Scheffler. 

Fairway found at 1...
