Scottie Scheffler moves one leg away from career grand slam with victory at The Open

Open Championship Final Round Leaderboard: Scottie Scheffler wins The Open for the first time in his career.

Scottie Scheffler has won The Open for the first time in his career at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

Scheffler, 29, closed with a steady round of 68 on the Dunluce Links to finish 17-under par and see out a commanding four-shot victory over his compatriot Harris English.

The win marks a fourth major title of Scheffler's career and his fourth win of the 2025 PGA Tour season.

Scheffler also now moves to within one leg of completing the career grand slam.

The American has two Masters titles, a PGA Championship and now an Open Championship to his name.

Scheffler will have a chance to achieve golf immortality, just as Rory McIlroy did at The Masters in April, when he rocks up at Shinnecock Hills for the US Open next June.

If you believe in fate, the final round of the 2026 US Open falls on Scheffler's 30th birthday.

Only six golfers in the modern era have completed the career grand slam (McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Ben Hogan and Gene Sarazen).

Scheffler now becomes the fourth player to win The Masters, PGA and The Open all before the age of 30, joining Woods, Nicklaus and Player.

Last week's Scottish Open champion Chris Gotterup continued his impressive recent form with a solo third finish at The Open.

Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick and Haotong Li rounded out the top five on 11-under par.

Home favourite Rory McIlroy failed to ignite for much of the final round and his closing round of 69 saw him finish tied seventh on 10-under par alongside defending champion Xander Schauffele and Robert MacIntyre.

LIV Golf superstar Bryson DeChambeau vaulted up the board with a brilliant 64 to finish the week in tied 10th on 9-under par.

An incredible result given he started the week with a disastrous 78, his worst opening score at at major.
