Matt Fitzpatrick's fast start at The Open is down to his wife writing love messages on his balls
Matt Fitzpatrick's wife Katherine Fitzpatrick takes to social media to show off the cute messages she wrote her husband ahead of his fast start to The Open at Royal Portrush.

It can't be known for certain whether Matt Fitzpatrick's wife writing on his balls contributed to his fast start at the 153rd Open Championship, but it most certainly appears to have helped.
Matthew Fitzpatrick's wife Katherine took to Instagram before Thursday's first round to show her writing a number of different cute messages on his Titleist Pro V1x golf balls at Royal Portrush.
Katherine Fitzpatrick revealed in her latest video that she always liked to mark up her husband's balls before every big tournament he plays, but especially The Open.
"Let's mark my husband's golf balls for The Open," Katherine begins her video, while sat next to her father-in-law, Russell.
"How many balls do you need?" Katherine then asks Matt, who replies in the background: "Hopefully not many..."
Katherine then writes her first message on one of the balls, which reads 'MF IS CUTE'.
The second then reads: 'I LOVE YOU'.
The third reads: 'XO' with love hearts written all over it.
On why she likes to write on Fitzpatrick's balls, she said: "It's a special way for me to get involved.
"Most of the time I do hearts and stars, sometimes if it's more of a serious tournament then I'll do fish."
Fitzpatrick's father Russ then says: "What are you serious?!"
Katherine replies: "What, you didn't know that I did that, Russ?!"
"All the golfers know you don't mark them like that," Russ replies with a smile.
Katherine concludes: "Well anyway, I'm still going to give you a special pack of balls, Matt.
"You don't have to use them, but they are packed and sealed with love."

The latest set of love messages on Fitzpatrick's Titleist balls most certainly worked on Thursday as the Englishman posted a brilliant 4-under 67 to surge to the top of the leaderboard at Royal Portrush.
Fitzpatrick won his sole major to date at the US Open in 2022.
Katherine and Matt Fitzpatrick have been married since October 2024.
They were last seen pictured together attending the Wimbledon tennis tournament ahead of The Open.
