LIV Golf's Sam Horsfield has been disqualified after failing to notify officials he had retired early from Open Championship Final Qualifying, according to a report.

Horsfield, 28, is understood to have walked out of West Lancashire Golf Club after enduring a horror opening nine in the first round.

The Majesticks man was 7-over par thru just nine holes before he stormed out the venue.

The Englishman was one of 14 LIV Golf players competing across four different 36-hole Open Final Qualifiers at West Lancs, Burnham & Berrow, Dundonald Links and Royal Cinque Ports on Tuesday 1 July.

Players are looking to punch their tickets to the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland from 17-20 July.

An R&A official confirmed to bunkered that Horsfield walked off the course after going out in 43 shots in the first round.

Horsfield was then DQ'd from the tournament after he had failed to notify officials he had retired early.

Soon after Horsfield's DQ, news also emerged from bunkered that fellow LIV Golf pro Adrian Meronk, 32, had also walked out over at Dundonald Links.

Meronk, who narrowly missed out on making the European Ryder Cup team in 2023, retired from Open Final Qualifying after carding a first round of 3-over par.

Other LIV Golf players in action at Open Final Qualifying include David Puig, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Lucas Hebert and Harold Varner III.

Poulter's son Luke, who lost in a playoff to make the US Open last month, is also in action over at Royal Cinque Ports.

Sergio Garcia made the brave call to skip Open Final Qualifying last week but he thankfully still ended up picking up the solitary LIV spot available at LIV Golf Dallas on Sunday.

It marked the first time the R&A had ever awarded LIV Golf with an exemption into The Open.

A total of 17 LIV Golf players have safely advanced into The Open prior to Final Qualifying today.
