FedEx St Jude Championship Live: Justin Rose defeats JJ Spaun in playoff at TPC Southwind

FedEx St Jude Championship Final Scores: England's Justin Rose wins his 12th PGA Tour title with playoff victory over JJ Spaun in Memphis.

Justin Rose defeated JJ Spaun in a playoff to win his 12th career PGA Tour title at the FedEx St Jude Championship at TPC Southwind.

Spaun fired a brilliant 65 to set the clubhouse target of 16-under par, which Rose duly matched after making four birdies on the last five holes in a round of 67.

Both players made par on the first extra hole and then they birdied the second extra hole with Spaun holing from 30 feet and Rose from seven feet.

Rose then birdied the third extra hole from nine feet, once again at the par-4 18th albeit with a different pin position this time, and Spaun failed to convert his birdie from seven feet.

The win marks Rose's 12th on the PGA Tour and his first since Pebble Beach in February 2023.

It also vaults him to fourth in the FedEx Cup, with Spaun moving up into third.

Rose, 45, found himself three shots off the pace with five holes to play but he surged to the top of the board late with four birdies on the last five.

With the two birdies he made in the playoff, Rose birdied six of his last eight holes in the tournament.

"I had an amazing last 90 minutes," said Rose, reflecting on his win on the 18th.

"I gave myself a chance with a birdie on 14 and then just played unbelievable golf coming home.

"It was a lot of fun today, this is why I practice, and I've been saying since Augusta that when I bring my best I know I'm good enough to compete.

"A lot of hard work has come to fruition today."

Rose added: "I've always known I've had it, I know when it matters I've still got it, and I feel like I play better the more it gets important.

"It's nice to know it's not left me at this ripe old age. The body feels good, there could still be a good run of golf left.

"Today is a huge win for me and I can't wait to share this with Fooch [caddie], we've been through a lot of ups and downs. This is going to be a fun one for us to celebrate."

Tommy Fleetwood will once again be left kicking himself having led by two shots with three to play.

The Englishman made par on the easy par-5 16th and then made bogey on the penultimate hole to fall out of the lead.

He would par the 18th for a round of 69 to finish in a share of third with World No.1 Scottie Scheffler, who carded a 67.

Fleetwood was looking to win his first PGA Tour title in his 162nd start on the circuit.

He's now had 29 top-five finishes, which is the most by any player yet to win their first PGA Tour title since 1983.

Cameron Young, who won his first PGA Tour title at the Wyndham Championship a week previous, continued his impressive recent form by rounding out the top five on 11-under par courtesy of a 64.

Scheffler remains well out in front in the FedEx Cup race.

The top 50 players in the standings after today's final round advance to next week's BMW Championship.

The top 30 after that will then compete for the FedEx Cup at the Tour Championship.
