Scottie Scheffler finds himself three shots down heading into the weekend of his title defence at the $20m Memorial Tournament on the PGA Tour.
Scheffler, 28, carded a second consecutive round of 70 to bump himself up to 4-under par at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
That is in solo fourth position as it stands.
The World No.1 threw in a mixed bag of five birdies, a bogey and a double on a wet and challenging Friday in Ohio.
"Yeah, I mean, the golf course is playing really long," Scheffler said after the second round.
"It's a very challenging golf course. When the rough gets this wet, any time you hit it in the rough, the lies are going to be really bad and it's going to be really challenging.
"So it's definitely important to keep the ball in play and try and stay dry."
Nick Taylor surged to the top of the leaderboard on 7-under par with a 68 and he joins in-form Ben Griffin, who could only manage a 72.
Akshay Bhatia lies in solo third on 5-under par courtesy of a 69.
Sam Burns vaulted into contention on 3-under par after a brilliant 65, and he's joined on that score by Shane Lowry (72) and Jordan Spieth (69).
Spieth has not been in the best form of late but he likes how his game is trending ahead of the U.S. Open in two weeks' time.
"I feel like I'm in a nice place," said Spieth.
"It's nice because this course, you can't fake it. It tells you where you are.
"I've been feeling like I've been pretty close, and I just want to stay the course, and it's nice to get rewarded the last couple holes there with some really nice shots, looking at the weekend with some heavy wind tomorrow, and know that I have a chance."
Tom Hoge (69), Xander Schauffele (69), Collin Morikawa (75) and Russell Henley (68) are then a further shot back on 2-under par.
The Memorial Tournament is hosted by golf legend and record 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus.
It is the seventh of eight Signature Events on the PGA Tour in 2025.
With it comes a gigantic $20m prize purse with $4m going to the winner.
