US Open 2025: The surprising names who missed the cut at Oakmont
The 2025 US Open at Oakmont will continue over the weekend without several high-profile names who missed the cut in Pennsylvania.
The US Open will be without some huge names at the weekend.
Masters champion Rory McIlroy was among the high-profile players who struggled on day one at Oakmont.
But the Northern Irishman - who cut a visibly frustrated figure on day two in Pennsylvania - rallied to make the cut.
His fortunes were better than the defending champion, Bryson DeChambeau, who has made an early exit.
DeChambeau carded a first round of 73 and could only manage a 77 on Friday to miss the cut by three strokes.
The LIV Golf star wasn't the only high-profile name who will be licking their wounds after a bruising 36 holes of golf.
Let's take a look at who will be going home early...
Bryson DeChambeau +10
First round score: 73
Second round score: 77
The defending champion departs the US Open early after brutal round two that saw him make eight bogeys, one double bogey, three birdies and six pars.
Just not his week.
Tommy Fleetwood +9
First round score: 74
Second round score: 75
Came into Oakmont confident with his game and has been known to relish the test of a US Open.
But there were simply too many mistakes from the Englishman.
Wyndham Clark +8
First round score: 74
Second round score: 74
Clark has struggled to regain the form that briefly saw him challenge World No.1 Scottie Scheffler at numerous PGA Tour events.
The 2023 US Open champion was okay on and around the greens at Oakmont, but appeared to struggle from the fairway and off the tee.
Phil Mickelson +8
First round score: 74
Second round score: 74
Phil the thrill looked like he was comfortably going to make the cut for much of day two.
But a disastrous double bogey on his penultimate hole in round two left the six-time major winner needing a birdie up the last.
Mickelson cut a dejected figure as his birdie putt slid past the cup to send him home early in what could be his final US Open appearance.
Cameron Smith +8
First round score: 75
Second round score: 73
Missed cuts at The Masters and PGA Championship.
His miserable run in the majors continues.
Dustin Johnson +10
First round score: 75
Second round score: 75
Johnson's miserable form continues with his third missed cut in a row in a major championship.
Joaquin Niemann +10
First round score: 75
Second round score: 75
Came into the US Open off the back of his best finish in a major at the PGA Championship but continues to struggle.
Justin Thomas +12
First round score: 76
Second round score: 76
Another poor performance for the two-time major winner.
Patrick Cantlay +8
First round score: 76
Second round score: 72
Has been out of sorts for a while and it doesn't look like his fortunes will change anytime soon.
Justin Rose +14
First round score: 77
Second round score: 77
Rose has struggled since he lost to the aforementioned McIlroy at The Masters.
Ludvig Aberg +8
First round score: 72
Second round score: 76
The Swede posted a top-10 at The Masters and followed it with a poor, by his standards, performance at the PGA Championship.
This week Aberg was actually okay on the greens, but he struggled to hit the fairways.
Shane Lowry +17
First round score: 79
Second round score: 78
A complete disaster for the former Open champion.
What was the projected cut?

For the US Open at Oakmont in 2007, the cut was a staggering 10-over.
The top 60 and ties will make the cut at the 2025 US Open.
This year, players who finished on 7-over made the cut.
