Sergio Garcia angrily snapped his driver after an errant tee shot down the par-5 2nd during the final round of The Open.

Garcia, 45, sent his drive down the 2nd hole 275 yards into the left rough.

As his ball sailed into the long grass, Garcia swung his driver backwards into the ground in disgust.

The shaft snapped in half and Garcia then flung one half of it over to his bag.

To Garcia's credit, he sent his second shot 254 yards up the fairway and shy of the green.

The Spaniard chipped up to 10 feet and drained the birdie putt.

Garcia went on to shoot a respectable 68 without his driver at The Open

He finished the week at 3-under par.

Garcia is looking to show something at The Open with Luke Donald set to soon announce his six captain's picks on the European Ryder Cup team.

Donald's picks will be confirmed after the Betfred British Masters at the end of August.

Garcia still thinks there is a chance he can earn one of Donald's picks.

Garcia won his second LIV Golf title earlier this season with victory in Hong Kong.

But he endured lacklustre results at The Masters and US PGA with a missed cut and T67 respectively.

Having terminated his card on  the DP World Tour two years ago, Garcia decided to re-join the circuit this season in a bid to keep his Ryder Cup hopes alive.

Garcia is the all-time record points scorer in Ryder Cup history with 28.5.

Should Garcia earn one of Donald's picks, he would move level with Sir Nick Faldo and Lee Westwood for the most appearances (11) on a European Ryder Cup team.
