The big names in danger of missing PGA Tour's playoffs

Take a look at the big names in danger of missing out on the PGA Tour's postseason.

The final PGA Tour event of the regular season has arrived and it carries dramatic implications for a number of stars.

Only the top 70 in the FedEx Cup standings at the conclusion of the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina advance to the postseason's first playoff event in Memphis next week.

As you would expect, the likes of Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are comfortably through but several notables will be sweating the bubble this weekend.

Some will even need a win if they are to have any hope of teeing it up at the FedEx St. Jude Championship on 7 August.

Let's take a look...

Rickie Fowler

Fan-favourite Rickie Fowler is currently inside the bubble but will need to make sure he doesn't do anything silly this week.

Joel Dahmen

The Netflix star recently split with his long-time caddie Geno Bonnalie to the surprise of many. "It was time," Dahmen said after they parted ways amicably.

Dahmen is currently 101st in the standings and will therefore need to contend at the Wyndham to book a tee time at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Max Homa

A season to forget for the American, who was the standout performer for the US Ryder Cup team only two years ago.

Homa has missed seven cuts all season and was only truly in contention once at the John Deere Classic.

Will likely need a win this week to squeeze through.

Gary Woodland

Has been solid if not spectacular all season long, with only six missed cuts from 20 starts.

At 75th in the standings, the former US Open champion and Ryder Cup vice captain needs a big week.

Billy Horschel

Horschel had surgery on his back in May and is hoping to get back in action later this year.

Tom Kim

Has been surprisingly off the boil this season.

Rumoured to be joining LIV Golf later this year, the South Korean has shown no signs recently of turning around his form.

Adam Scott

Way down the standings at 85th, the former Masters winner needs to challenge for his 15th PGA Tour title this week if he is to make it through.

Matt Wallace

England's Wallace desperately wants to qualify for the European Ryder Cup team.

At 92 in the standings, it seems almost impossible that Wallace will be able to book a tee time next week.

One can dream, though...

How do the PGA Tour's playoffs work?

The top 70 players in the FedEx Cup points standings advance to the FedEx St. Jude Championship (August 7-10).

From there, only the top 50 in the standings at the conclusion of the FedEx St. Jude Championship make it through to the BMW Championship (August 14-17).

The top 30 players in the standings after the BMW Championship get a tee time for the Tour Championship at East Lake.
