About Rory McIlroy's 2024 schedule:
Like we have become accustomed to with the Northern Irishman, the four-time major champion kickstarted his season in the Middle East.
He played in the inaugural Dubai Invitational on the DP World Tour and had it not been for an errant tee shot at the 72nd hole he likely would've claimed the victory.
Instead, a disappointed McIlroy watched Tommy Fleetwood claim his seventh title on the European circuit.
McIlroy then competed in the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. He defeated Poland's Adrian Meronk by one stroke and won the tournament for the fourth time.
The Ulsterman then turned his attentions to the PGA Tour and played his first event at the signature AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The tournament was reduced to 54 holes because of inclement weather and McIlroy finished in a tie for 66th.
A week later McIlroy teed it up in the Genesis Invitational hosted by Tiger Woods. A string of mistakes in the first round meant he had too much ground to cover to contend.
McIlroy then had back-to-back T-21 finishes at the Cognizant Classic and the Arnold Palmer Invitational before playing in the flagship Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
McIlroy was involved in a rules controversy at TPC Sawgrass and appeared to be questioned whether he had made a correct drop by Viktor Hovland and Jordan Spieth.
For his part, McIlroy said he was adamant he did nothing wrong.
McIlroy then began to find some form with a third place finish at the Valero Texas Open.
In his first major performance of 2024, it was once again a tale of frustration and woe at Augusta National as he never really got going at the Masters.
McIlroy played in the RBC Heritage a week later, tying for 33rd.
Then he claimed his 25th PGA Tour win alongside Shane Lowry in the pairs event.
He celebrated by doing a bit of karaoke.
McIlroy didn't have to wait too long for his 26th victory on the North American circuit.
A dominant McIlroy stormed to victory at the Wells Fargo Championship.
McIlroy followed that win with a T-12 finish at the PGA Championship.
A week later, McIlroy teed it up in the RBC Canadian Open.
He started well, but a poor second round left him with simply too much to do.
McIlroy ultimately ended in a tie for fourth alongside Tom Kim.
After playing in Canada, McIlroy turned his attentions back to the United States.
He finished in a tie for 15th at the Memorial Tournament.
A week later he endured heartbreak once again at the 2024 US Open.
McIlroy's first tournament since that defeat saw him head to The Renaissance Club for the Scottish Open as the defending champion.
He put up a spirited defence, ultimately finishing in a tie for fourth.
Following that, McIlroy missed the cut at The Open at Royal Troon.
He made his second appearance at the Olympic Games in August 2024.
McIlroy contended for a medal but ultimately came up short after a crucial mistake in the final round where he found the water with his second shot on the 15th hole at Le Golf National. He finished tied fifth.
Future plans
McIlroy does chop and change his schedule from time-to-time.
One tournament that his legion of fans will be looking forward to is the Amgen Irish Open which will be staged at Royal County Down over 12-15 September.
