US Open 2025 Live: Third round scores, leaderboard updates, tee times and highlights from Oakmont

US Open 2025 Live: Third round leaderboard and updates from golf's third major of the season at famed Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania.

Sam Burns maintained his one-shot cushion after the third round of the US Open at Oakmont.

Burns carded a steady 69 to move to 4-under par with just 18 holes left to play in Pennsylvania.

The 28-year-old American leads by one shot over JJ Spaun (69) and Adam Scott (67).

Viktor Hovland (70) is three off the pace in solo fourth.

They are the only four players in the red thru 54 holes at the 125th US Open.

Burns, Spaun and Hovland are all going in search of their first major title.

Scott is looking to add to his 2013 Masters triumph and all at the age of 44 years old.

Should Scott win, he would become the oldest US Open champion since Hale Irwin at Medinah in 1990.

LIV Golf's Carlos Ortiz matched Scott's best of the day 67 to move into the top five on level par.

Tyrrell Hatton (68), also of LIV Golf, is a further shot back on 1-over par alongside Thriston Lawrence (70).

Elsewhere, Scottie Scheffler (70) remained at 4-over par, which is eight shots behind heading into the final round.

Rory McIlroy had another day to forget with a 74 and he is well down the board at 10-over par.

McIlroy spoke to a pool of reporters after the round and he made it clear he's still irritated with the media

Here's a look at the leaderboard heading into the final round of the US Open:

Cone

Cone +2 (4)

Little-known Trevor Cone has just made two birdies on the first four holes.

He's moved nicely up to 2-over par for the tournament.

18:30
Scheffler birdie

Scheffler +4 (2)

More like it from the World No.1.

Scottie recovers the dropped shot.

He converts a 12-footer on the par-4 2nd.

Back to 4-over. Seven back.

18:28
Conners bogey

Conners +4 (10)

Conners was going along nicely but he's just made his first bogey of the day at 10.

Still 2-under for the round which is great.

Scheffler three-putt bogey

Scheffler +5 (1)

Simply shocking stuff from Scottie.

He split the opening fairway and he looked in prime position to setup a chance for birdie.

Scheffler found the heart of the green to some 35 feet but then inexplicably three-putted for bogey.

He left his first putt five feet short.

Then missed the par save on the right.

Awful start.

18:13
Bogey for McIlroy

McIlroy +8 (11)

Bogey for Rory at the par-4 11th.

Very nearly a double.

McIlroy's bogey putt from five feet curls in on the right side.

It's just not happening for Rory.

18:07
Scheffler tees off

Scheffler +4

Scheffler splits the opening fairway.

The World No.1 needs a low one today in order to get back in the hunt for a first US Open title.

Scheffler worked hard on his game on the range last night with his coach Randy Smith.

He looked agitated and clearly frustrated that he had fallen seven shots off the pace.

Anyway, today is a new day.

Let's see what Scottie can do...

McIlroy birdie

McIlroy +7 (10)

It's a first birdie of the round for McIlroy at the par-4 10th.

He pinches his lips and raises his ball to the crowd, but he looks a defeated man.

McIlroy to 7-over and 10 back.

17:51
Spieth bogey

Spieth +6 (2)

Jordan Spieth makes an adventurous bogey at the par-4 2nd.

His tee shot goes left and he can only advance his ball forward to more rough on the right side of the fairway.

Spieth finds the back of the green with his third and two-putts for a bogey.

17:47
McIlroy pays the price

McIlroy +8, Schauffele +5 (9)

McIlroy is forced to take a drop at the 9th.

He absolutely hates his approach and is faced with a lengthy putt for par.

McIlroy misses and is now 2-over for the day.

Schauffele escapes with a par after playing a superb approach right of the path.

17:40
Spare a thought for Cameron Davis

Davis +18 (14)

Australia's Cameron Davis started the day superbly with a birdie at the 1st.

But it's gone downhill dramatically since then.

Davis has just reached the 15th tee box and is 11-over for his round and at the bottom of the leaderboard.

17:36
Save for the Scot

Fox +5, MacIntyre +4 (1)

Robert MacIntyre does extremely well to make par after finding the bunker with his tee shot.

The Scot drains an eight-footer for his four.

Fox drops back.

17:34
Poor tee shots

McIlroy +7, Schauffele +5 (9*)

McIlroy has been fighting the lefts with his driver for the last couple of months.

He finds the left rough at the par-4 9th.

Schauffele is miles right.

17:32
LIV Golf recruit on the rise

Leishman +3 (6)

Former PGA Tour member Marc Leishman has raced out of the blocks.

Three birdies for the LIV Golf recruit in his opening six holes means the Australian is now in a share of 12th.

He began the day in 45th place.

17:28
Good save for Rory McIlroy

McIlroy +7, Schauffele +5 (8)

McIlroy does well to save his par.

Schauffele holes a five-footer for bogey.

17:26
First bogey of the day for Fitzpatrick

Fitzpatrick +6 (12)

Fitzpatrick pays the price for having a crack at the par-5 12th in two.

His approach finds the rough and he can't save par from 15 feet.

17:23
Spieth par

Spieth +5, Im +5 (1)

Jordan Spieth finds his golf ball in the left rough and manages to find the middle of the green at the first.

His birdie attempt lacks juice, though, but it will be a safe par.

Im two-putts for his four from 60 feet.

17:21
Trouble for Xander

McIlroy +7, Schauffele +4 (8*)

The long par-3 8th is playing just 253 yards today.

Xander Schauffele's tee shot goes left and he's in the rough and staring at a bogey.

McIlroy likes his shot and promptly picks up his tee. He finds the heart of the green and faces a lengthy two-putt.

17:20
Fox and MacIntyre tee off

Fox +4, MacIntyre +4 (1*)

Both players find the fairway bunker with their first tee shots.

17:15
Par save for Rory, birdie for Xander

McIlroy +7, Schauffele +4 (7)

Xander Schauffele uses the slope on the 7th green perfectly and sets up a great opportunity for birdie.

McIlroy pays the price for missing his spot and his golf ball rolls off the green.

He's got no green to work with so elects to go sideways and use the slope again. It's okay, but he has nine feet for par.

Will he save? Yes!

Schauffele has no issues with his short birdie putt and makes another move up the leaderboard.

17:11
Spieth underway

Spieth +5, Im +5 (1*)

Former US Open champion Jordan Spieth gets his third round underway.

His playing partner, Sungae Im, finds the fairway.

Spieth gets off to a horrible start as his first tee shot is miles left.

He yells fore.

17:03
Striped

McIlroy +7, Schauffele +5 (7*)

Decent tee shots for the pair down the par-4 7th.

Both players' golf balls stop just short of the fairway bunker on the right side of the fairway.

17:01
Who is next out?

Mackenzie Hughes and Matthieu Pavon will be teeing off shortly.

They'll be followed by Jordan Spieth and Sungjae Im.

Ryan Fox and Robert MacIntyre are good friends on the PGA Tour and are playing together today.

They are out at 12.18pm.

16:59
Xander birdie

McIlroy +7, Schauffele +5 (6)

Rory McIlroy yet again faces a tester for par at the 6th.

His birdie attempt rolls by about four or five feet, but he manages to find the right edge of the cup with the comebacker.

As expected, Schauffele makes his birdie.

16:56
Xander sets up gimme birdie

McIlroy +7, Schauffele +6 (6*)

Xander Schauffele will be moving up the leaderboard, we presume, very shortly.

The American knocks his tee shot at the par-3 6th to a matter of inches.

McIlroy appears agitated with the tee box. His golf ball settles pin high left of the flag, but he's 33 feet away.
